Voluntary consultancy

My membership of both the ARCIA and WIA organisations is in recognition that there is a need for cooperation to encourage and train a new generation of workers into wireless communications for which has little support in the education system these days.

I support the radio industry by contributing to work by the WIA and ARCIA in committee work. I chair the Standards Australia radio communications committees RC004 (Marine) and RC006 (Land mobile and General) on behalf of ARCIA. On RC006 I represent WIA and on RC004 I represent ARCIA.

My spectrum committee work for is used particularly in responding to proposed changes made by the ACMA to licensing and supply policy and regulation.

WIA spectrum committee

The Wireless Institute of Australia (WIA) Spectrum Committee plays a key role in representing the interests of amateur radio operators in Australia. They work on spectrum management issues, liaising with regulatory bodies like the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) to ensure fair access to radio frequencies. The committee also engages with international organizations, such as the International Amateur Radio Union (IARU), to address global spectrum concerns and advocate for amateur radio rights. Their efforts help maintain and expand opportunities for amateur radio enthusiasts in Australia.

ARCIA spectrum and technical committee

The Australian Radio Communications Industry Association (ARCIA) Spectrum and Technical Committee focuses on managing spectrum-related issues within the radio communications industry in Australia. They work closely with regulatory bodies like the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) to address technical standards, spectrum allocation, and other critical matters. The committee also provides input on policies and standards, ensuring the industry's needs are met while promoting innovation and efficiency.

The ACMA mandate standards using equipment rules to regulate the supply of certain equipment into Australia.
